Colachel
Colachel is a commercial town in Kanyakumari District. Colachel was an important port town during the 16th and 18th centuries. Colachel Port, a natural port, is bounded by chain of rocks and the Muttam point. Colachel is about 30 km northwest of Kanyakumari. Nagercoil town is to the west of Colachel.
The port light at Colachel was constructed in 1925 and it is visible for a distance of 12 km. There is another light called the Anchorage light which was constructed in 1936 and has a elevation is 5 m and is visible for a distance of 8 km. Colachel is 30 km southeast of Thiruvananthapuram.
